A portrait of Efim Efremovich Chupurov in 1938 in Nikolaevsk-na-Amure. A soldier in the Red Army, E. E. Chupurov, who took part in the Soviet-Finnish War in 1939-1940, was demobilised in June, 1941, but was soon arrested in 1942 for failure to appear at mobilisation. Description of exhibit | A black-and-white half-length photographic portrait of a man in the uniform of the Red Army: a winter, cloth, soldier’s shirt, with two breast pockets with flaps fastened down with buttons. He is wearing a “budyonovka” which has a five-pointed star made out of cloth sewn onto it, and over this there is fastened a metal star. On the back of the photo there is a handwritten inscription in blue ink, which reads: "[nachalo utracheno] Efimovichu Chupurovu ot muzha i papy Efima Ef. Chupurova. Proshu menia ne zabyvaite khot’ izredka vspominaite. sfotografirovalsia ne vazhno D.V.G. gorod Nikolaevsk-na-Amure. Foto Dinamo. 25/II-38g.” [“[the beginning is missing] to Yefimovich Chupurov from husband and dad Efim Ef. Chupurov. I ask you not to forget me, remember me at least occasionally. I was photographed not important in D.V.K, town Nikolaevsk-na-Amure. Photo Dinamo. 25/II-38.”]. The top part of the photograph was probably cut off after the inscription was written on the back. |
State of preservation | There are a lot of small scratches and spots on the picture. There are traces of folds along the edges. |
Detailed annotation | A portrait photograph of Efim Efremovich Chupurov, taken in 1938 in Nikolaevsk-na-Amure and given to his relatives (his wife and child) along with the dedicatory inscription. E.E. Chupurov was soon sent to the Front (he took part in the Soviet-Finnish War, 1939-1940) and then, at the end of June – beginning of July, 1941, a few days after he had been demobilised, he was arrested for failure to appear at mobilisation. The photograph was preserved in the family. |
