An ivory cross on fine string, to be worn next to the skin. 1940s. It belonged to Jonas Misiavicius, a political prisoner, when he was in a Camp in Ukhta, Komi ASSR. It is kept in Panevezys Local History Museum (Panevezys, Lihuanian Republic). It was given to the Museum in 1996. (Photo December 2011).

Description of exhibitA self-made cross on fine string, to be worn next to the skin. The cross is carved from light-coloured ivory and on either side of it there are stripes etched with a knife. The string is twisted like a cord and passes through an eyelet on the cross.
 
Detailed annotationA self-made cross on fine string, to be worn next to the skin. 1940s. The cross is carved out of ivory; the string in authentic. The cross belonged to Jonas Misiavicius, a political prisoner, while he was in a camp in Ukhta, Komi ASSR. According to information provided by the Museum, he was arrested in 1944 for a speech he made in the cemetery during a burial service. The cross is kept in the Panevezys Local History Museum (Panevezys, Lithuanian Republic). It was given to the Museum in 1996 by Ms Misiaviciene, probably the wife of J. Misiavicius.
