Museum exhibit /Application by A.A. Lisovskii to the Editor of the “Severnyi gorniak” [“Northern Miner”] newspaper.
A.A. Lisovskii’s application to the editor of the newspaper “Severnyi gorniak”[ “Northern Miner”], A.S. Briukhanov, is dated the second half of August, 1936. Referring to a report in the newspaper for 16.08.1936, prisoner Aleksandr Alekseevich Lisovskii is applying for the post of one of the compilers of an anthology about the exploitation of natural resources and the industrialisation of the Ukhta-Pechora region. This anthology was being prepared by the Department for Culture and Education [KVO] of the Ukhta-Pechora Camp. A.A. Lisovskii provides a detailed CV and a list of study-aids, in the production of which he has participated. The document is kept in the Ukhta Local History museum. It was transferred from the Archive of the “Progress” electro-ceramic factory, the successor to the OGPU water-mine [Promysel] No.2 (Settlement Vodniy). Description of exhibit | Paper, ink, manuscript, instructions – autograph. One sheet and reverse side, 2nd half of August, 1936. The document is on one sheet of paper with a reverse side and is in purple ink. It is headed “Application” and is addressed to the editor of the “Severnyi gorniak” [“Northern Miner”] newspaper, A.S. Bryukhanov. It is written by the prisoner Aleksandr Alekseevich Lisovskii. The word “Application” and the address section are underlined. In the upper left-hand corner are some instructions in red pencil: “Comrade (illegible) Send for on the 27 /VIII. Signed (illegible). In the upper right-hand corner of the document are the figures “7” (in green pencil), “39” (in ordinary pencil) and “12” (in red pencil). |
State of preservation | The document is in poor condition; there are places along the edges where the text stops short, the paper is torn in many places and there are signs of stitching along the left margin. |
Detailed annotation | Application by Aleksandr Alekseevich Lisovskii addressed to A.S. Bryukhanov, the editor of the “Severnyi gorniak” [“Northern Miner”] newspaper (the organ of the Ukhta-Pechora Camp) with a request to involve him in the preparation of a book called “Istoriia osvoeniia Ukhta-Pechorskogo kraiia” [“A History of the development of the Ukhta-Pechora region”]. It was presented in the second half of August 1936 (it is dated according to the instructions on the application). Lisovskii offers his professional services as one of the compilers of the book, which is dedicated to the opening-up of the Ukhta- Pechora region. He provided a detailed CV, lists the places where he has worked and provides a list of the most important study-aids that he helped develop. Lisovskii refers to the publication in the “Northern Miner” of 16.08.1936 of an article about the preparation of the book for the 20th Anniversary of the October Revolution (it has not been possible to find an copy of the book itself). It is known that a Central buro for the preparation of the collection was set up under the Department for Culture and Education of the Ukhta-Pechora Camp and that Lisovskii was invited to work on the project as a member of the buro for creating “Istoriia lesozagotovitel’noi gruppy Tobys’ Ukhtpechlaga” [“A History of the Tobys’ Timber-procurement Group from the Ukhta-Pechora Camp”]. It is also known that the book was not published. The document was transferred to the Museum from the archive of the “Progress” factory , the successor to the OGPU water-mine [Promysel] No.2 (Settlement Vodniy). |
