The monument “Zhertvam peshikh etapov 30-kh godov” [“To the victim of the prisoner transit marches of the 1930s”] on the common grave of dekulakised peasants was erected in August 1994 in the operating cemetery of the town of Solvychegodsk. The initiative for the erection of the monument came from the Kotlas-based society “Sovest’” [“Conscience”] and had the support of the town administration. The remains were discovered in August 1991during the construction of a private house on the outskirts of town; they were re-buried in a common grave in November 1992. The site where the remains were found is 200m away from the route taken by groups of dekulakised special settlers, who in the winter of 1930/1931 walked from Kotlas up along the Vychegda river to places which had been assigned to them as settlements. The monument was unveiled was unveiled in a ceremony on 13 August 1994. (Photo late 1990s).
