Museum exhibit /Certificate for B. Bagdonas
A certificate from the MVD Special Commandant’s Office in the name of Bolis Bagdonas (born 1912). Dated 29.12.1955, Inta (Komi ASSR). Issued for presentation to the police authorities in exchange for a passport. It is kept in the Inta Local History Museum (Komi Republic).

Description of exhibitOriginal, one-page document on a form, typewritten on one side of half a sheet of A4 paper. The personal data is written in purple ink on designated lines. The text of the document reads: MVD Komi ASSR/No. 4/53/”29” Dec. 1955// Certificate// Issued to citizen Bagdonas Bolis, son of Jonas, born 1907 [entry is blank], native of Pan[e]vezhis, Lithuanian SSR/ Lithuanian by nationality, so that, according to a Decree of the Government of the USSR dated 5th July, 1954, residence within the limits of the Inta Region of the Komi ASSR is permitted.// The certificate is issued for presentation to the police authorities in exchange for a passport.//Commandant of the MVD Special Commandant’s Office [inserted:] Komi [below that is a signature which is illegible], Position [inserted] Senior Lieu[tenan]t”. In the left-hand margin is a triangular stamp. The text on the stamp reads: “MVD Komi ASSR/ Settlement / Special Commandant’s Office”, in the centre is the number “52” (62?).

Detailed annotationA certificate from the MVD Special Commandant’s Office, Komi ASSR, in the name of Bolis Bagdonas, (born 1912). Dated 29.12.1955, Inta (Komi ASSR). It is issued for presentation to the police authorities in exchange for a passport. Bolis Bagdonas was arrested in April, 1945, and in August, 1945, was sentenced to 8 years in the camps. He served his sentence in the Vorkuta and Inta camps (MinLag, Komi ASSR). From April, 1953, he was in exile in Inta, working as an electrician. He was released from Special Settlement in December, 1955 and returned to Lithuania in 1956.

In the Inta Local History Museum there is a set of applications for passports for those who were released from the MinLag or from Special Settlements in the second half of the 1950s. The bundle of applications was found in 1990 in a rubbish-skip in one of the yards in Inta. The certificate had been inserted into the passport-application form belonging to Bagdonas.
