Museum exhibit /Certificate for I. Pecheliunas
A certificate issued by the MVD Special Commandant’s Office, Komi ASSR in the name of Ionas Pecheliunas (born 1915). Dated 29.12.1955. Inta (Komi ASSR). It was issued for presentation to the police authorities in exchange for a passport. It is kept in the Inta Local History Museum, Komi Republic.

Description of exhibitOriginal. 1 sheet. A Document consisting of a form typed on one side of a sheet of paper half A4 size. The personal data is written in purple ink on designated lines. The text of the document reads: “MVD Komi ASSR / No. [dash] / “30” XII 1955 // Certificate // Issued to Citizen Pecheliunas Ionas, son of Iozas, born 1903, a native of Rumshishkes Village, Trakai uyezd, Lithuanian ASSR. / Lithuanian by nationality, so that, according to a Decree of the Government of the USSR dated 5th June, 1954, residence within the Inta Region of Komi ASSR is permitted // The certificate is issued for presentation to th police authorities in exchange for a passport. // Commandant of the MVD Special Commandant’s Office [a name is inserted] Mikhailov [his signature below that] /Position
[inserted] Sergeant”. The document is certified using a circular stamp. The text on the stamp is in two languages – Russian and Komi. “Komi ASSR-sa Pytshkossa Deloyas kuzya Ministerstvo/The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Komi ASSR”, in the centre is “No.13”.

Detailed annotationA certificate from the MVD Special Commandant’s Office, Komi ASSR in the name of Ionas Pecheliunas (born 1915). Dated 29.12.1955, Inta (Komi ASSR). It is issued for presentation to the Militia in exchange for a passport. In July 1945 Ionas Pecheliunas was sentenced to 10 years in corrective labour camps. He served his sentence in SevZheldorLag (Northern Railway Camp) and then in Minlag (Komi ASSR). From September, 1954, while in exile in Inta, he worked in the “Intaugol’” (Inta-Coal) Combine as a carpenter. He was released in May, 1956.
In the Inta Local History Museum there is a bundle of applications for passports for people who were released from the MinLag or from the Special Settlements in the second half of the 1950s. A bundle of applications was found in 1990 in a rubbish skip in one of the yards in Inta. The certificate had been inserted into the passport application form belonging to Pecheliunas.
