A box made by an unknown prisoner in PechorLag (Komi ASSR) in 1950 for Nikolai Aleksandrovich Glazov (1907-1989). In 1950 N.A. Glazov, a former political prisoner, was working as a doctor in the camp infirmary. His family (his wife and a daughter) lived with him in Inta. The box with the dedicatory inscription were given to his daughter (born 1935) as a present for the 8th of March [TRANSLATOR’S NOTE: 8th March is Women’s Day]. It was kept in Margarita Nikolayevna Glazova’s family and then in 1996 she gave the box to the Museum of the Research and Information Centre “Memorial” (St Petersburg). Description of exhibitA box on four supporting legs. The lid is loosely fastened to the box using two hinges. The lid and three sides of the box are carved on the outside with hollow grooves. The sides are covered with roses that have lots of petals and along the edges of the lid and of the sides there is a border with a repetitive design of horse-shoe-shaped figures. An inscription has been carved on the inside of the lid: "Na pamiat' Rite. Inta. " [“In Memory to Rita. Inta."] 8/III 1950.

Detailed annotationA box made by an unknown prisoner in PechorLag in 1950 at the request of Nikolai Aleksandrovich Glazov, a doctor and former prisoner. He then gave it to his daughter, Margarita, as a present on the 8th March. In 1950 N.A. Glazov was working as a doctor in the camp infirmary. His family (his wife and a daughter) we living with him in Inta. The box was kept in the family of Margarita Nikolaevna lazova? who used it to keep her photographs. She gave the box to the Museum of the Research and Information Centre “Memorial” (St Petersburg) in 1996.
