A photograph of the Administration of the SegezhStroi from the “Inspection Album for Photographic Records of SegezhStroi No.1”, made on 1 April 1936 in the Segezha Settlement, in the Medvezh’egorsk Region of the Karelia Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Photographic records of the construction of the Segezha pulp and paper mill [TsBK] and of the town of Segezha were taken by a special section of the Technical Photography Buro of the BelbaltLag (White Sea-Baltic Camp) of the NKVD. The published inspection albums containing a chronological photographic history of the SegezhStroi were based on these records. This photograph was handed to the local authority “The Museum Centre of the Town of Segezha” in 1985 from the Room of Military and Labour Glory” of the Segezha pulp and paper mill as part of just such an album for 1936-1938. Description of exhibit | A black-and-white image of a two-storey log-built building with a pitched roof. Photographed from the facade-side. In the central part of the facade there is a triangular pediment. On the facade of the building there are 18 windows: two on the ground floor and 8 on the first floor. The entrance to the building is in the centre. There is a balcony on the first floor, above the entrance. The image is blurred. |

Detailed annotation | The photograph of the “Administration Building of SegezhStroi”, from the “Inspection Album for the Photographic Records of SegezhStroi No.1” was taken in 1 April 1936 in the Segezha Settlement, in the Medvezh’egorsk Region of the Karelia Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Photography of the construction of the Segezha pulp and paper mill [TsBK] and the town of Segezha was carried out by a special section of the technical photography buro of the BelbaltLag of the NKVD. The photographer is unknown. The Album which contained the photograph is dated 1936-1938. The SegezhStroi office-building was situated the settlement of Segezha. It did not survive; the site no belongs to the Segezha pulp and paper mill [TsBK]. In the album, below the photograph, is added in writing: No.113/75 Segezhstroi Office” (the number indicates the number of the negative: it has not been determined where the negative is kept). The photograph was handed to the Museum from the Room of Military and Labour Glory of the Segezha pulp and paper mill [TsBK] in 1985 as part of an album. |
